You fell from a cliff. Half way down, you get caught in a branch sticking out from the cliff wall. YOU ARE SAVED!!
Then the branch pulls from the cliff wall and you plummet to the ground.
You might have thought you were saved by the branch, but you were not really saved. You put your trust in the strength of the branch. Bad decision!
Some people put their trust in an emotional response to the beautiful story of salvation in the Bible. They get all hyped up and excited about this "new found" spirituality and fully expected it to saturate their lives from the moment they were "saved."
Only "spirituality" is like the branch. It might make you think you are saved when you are really not saved. When you come "unsaved" you are disappointed beyond words. You might abandon the idea of Christianity, become despondent or become an atheist.
That is so sad. People put their faith in faith. They put their faith in emotions. The put their faith in some ethereal god out there somewhere. They then are surprised when that kind of faith fails them.
To be saved, one must not put his faith in spirituality, in faith or in a generic god. To be saved one must repent of sin, recognize Christ as Lord and commit his faith to the finished work of Christ at the cross of Calvary.
Nothing else will prevent your fall.
